Former Cisco IoT champion to lead business growth; build strategic partnerships

Brisbane … 1 February 2017 … RIOT Solutions, a specialist integrator of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, today announced the appointment of Scott Reid as Director, Smart & Connected Networks.

Reid’s role includes growing the business with major customers and developing strategic partnerships with organisations specifically requiring services in network architecture and Cyber security for IoT solutions.

Rob Merkwitza, managing director and founder, RIOT Solutions said this appointment is a key indicator that the Internet of Things concept is moving more to the mainstream as ideas become reality, driving increasing demand for connected devices.

“Scott’s extensive experience and leadership in IoT will bring a whole new dimension to the way in which we target services for the design, implementation and security of IoT type solutions,” Merkwitza said.

“Our business is on an accelerated trajectory, growing from one founder to 15 full time employees in just one year. Scott will be a real boost to our already successful team bringing inspiration, experience and extensive knowledge to our long term IoT strategy,” he said.

Reid joins RIOT Solutions from Cisco Systems where he was Regional Manager responsible for operations in Queensland, the Northern Territory, and Papua New Guinea for almost ten years. He is a frequent speaker and thought leader in Smart and Connected Cities, including leading the “South East Queensland Smart Region” report on the application of smart technologies to South East Queensland.

“As connected communities and societies evolve over the next twenty years, having a vision to drive the transformation from traditional infrastructure to a fully digital one, and to do it securely, puts RIOT Solutions at the forefront of innovation in this area,” Reid said.

“While plenty of companies are talking about the Internet of Things, there has been very little execution to date. RIOT Solutions has a really strong focus on the Internet of Things. It’s a major part of what they do, which gives them a competitive advantage no one else can match,” Reid said.

Established in September 2015, RIOT Solutions is on a fast growth track with its ‘Digital Plumbing’ business strategy, providing critical infrastructure cyber security services with a focus on OT and IT projects, as well as enterprise security and network architecture.

Merkwitza said the Internet of Things demands quality resources and complex skills.

“We have worked hard to recruit extremely well.  The addition of Reid brings a wealth of experience and leadership in the development of partnerships and relationships which is paramount in this market.  His passion in the IoT space is well recognised and will be a major accelerator for our business,” he said.

Reid is a member of the Australian Information Industry Association and head of its Infrastructure Sub-Committee; a member of the Infrastructure Advisory Committee to the Lord Mayor; and a committee member of the Smart Connected Transportation Centre of Excellence; and sits on the Library Board, State Library of Queensland.
