RIOT Solutions expands business to NSW and Victoria

Media Release – 3rd September 2020

RIOT Solutions expands business to NSW and Victoria; announces new regional manager appointment

RIOT Solutions has named Jim Winchester, former Cisco Meraki Enterprise and Public sector lead, as its new Regional Manager for NSW and Victoria. His role includes growing business directly with major customers and developing strategic partnerships, whilst expanding on the current success the company has had in Technical Architecture, Managed Services and Cyber Security in the key focus areas of Enterprise IT and Critical Infrastructure (OT/IIoT). As part of his 11-year career with Cisco and Meraki, Winchester has been integral on some of the largest deals in the country.

RIOT Solutions has been on a steady growth trajectory since its inception in September 2015 taking out the number one spot in the CRNFast50 in 2017 and number 6 in 2018. It now employs 40 people, headquartered in Brisbane and servicing clients across Australia. The last few years have seen some significant business growth in NSW and in partnership with Comscentre in Victoria. Encouragingly the Australia Post project has been a catalyst for more opportunities in the Melbourne region.

“We have a big focus on partnering with like-minded organisations that can add value to their customers with our specific skill sets and service offerings,” stated Managing Director Rob Merkwitza. “There is no better example of this than with the Australia Post deal last year where Comscentre invited us to come together to create a winning value proposition”, he added. “Our Architecture and Managed Security businesses have taken off over the past 18 months which have included several projects in Sydney and Melbourne as well as continued strong growth in the Queensland market and live opportunities in South Australia. Although this current period of COVID-19 can be daunting and hard to predict, appointing Jim with his wealth of experience, leadership and relationships give us confidence in a national approach to our business,” he added.

COVID-19 Impacts

During the pandemic, the company has seen a significant increase in malicious cybersecurity activity.

This has created a demand for managed security services that provide a logical and pragmatic approach that is cost-effective and highly responsive. “The fact that we have doubled our MSS business in these past 12 months is a certain sign that customers are looking for help in this space”, said Merkwitza. “Interestingly enough when you couple this with the increased demand on networks for remote working, collaboration and simply doing more with less due to the COVID-19 scenario, the conversation is more than just Cyber”, he said.  “There is a real requirement for network re-designs to ensure IT is enabling the business in this new world of working. Further to that is the increase in Critical Infrastructure projects where the acceleration of State-based investments are filtering down to OT/IT services”, he added. “Our key differentiator is that we provide Technical Architecture and Design services along with Cyber Security disciplines in conjunction with our Managed Security practice, right across IT and OT domains.”
